Hi love, its only failure if you don't learn anything from it...like maybe compassion for your striving...Its whatever you see it as and can never be anything else. You have powerful language. Please be supportive of your efforts and your willingness to learn and grow and your desire for expansion. And its OK to feel bummed when you fall down...just GET BACK UP. In martial arts we say "FALL DOWN 9 TIMES. GET UP TEN." xoxoxo

Maisy You are not a failure. You did what your body does naturally. Going on a Juice feast is a mind, body and spirit team.
Sometimes the body makes it's own plan. You have set a goal for yourself. There is lots of power in your intent. Write your intent on an index card and keep it with you at all times. When the body is not in sync with your mind and spirit. Give it a reminder be reading your intent. Say it out loud if you need to, or, say it to another person. It will help.

Blessed be.

The index card is a GREAT idea! Thanks Tuliza.

sugar addiction....increase your healthy fats...coconut oil, flax oil...I have increased it to 4 tbsp a day when starting for 5 days then reduced it down to 1 tbsp. You will know your sugar addiction is gone when you don't have cravings, which the healthy fats will reduce cravings.

This was the missing link in the juice fast, and why I broke it many, many times.

I love you Maisy... don't be hard on yourself.I don't think you're a failure just because you ate some food, you're a human...we eat, that's what we do.Just treat yourself to the best tasting juices you can make when ever you're having a craving. And maybe don't think about juice feasting till July 31st...just juice feast one day at a time, one juice at a time...we love you.

How true! I started with several tbsps of coconut oil in the beginning, too! It really helped.

hi ,

to be honest I am happy to read your story!!! People are so right with their supportive worlds here.I must agree with every of them.
I am on juice feast since 15.2. and i think I am eating every day!!!! or every other day...I eat only bread with avocado!!! Nothing else I crave only bread. It is so silly!! I was very upset with myself but then I just realised I am doing my best.Every single day moorning I prepare my 4 l of juices even I know I will possibly eat that bread again!! But I know there must come time when I will find out why I am craving bread!!! Carbohydrates...I will try advice to use more oil as I dont eat oil at all.But I always eat bread with avocado...well I dont know. But I know for sure I am going to continue evry day to the end.And I am proud of every single sip of juice.I will let you know when i stop to eat bread!!!
Lots of love and suport from New Zealand

I understand the bread addiction very well, Renata. When I understood the truth about it (through research) somehow this was able to crack through my own addiction and empower me.

I was addicted to anything with flour, all types of grains. I had uncontrollable cravings for them. Ever time I tried to give them up, sometime late in the day I would start feeling a little antsy, and pretty soon a full-on jones would kick in until I had to have some kind of snack with grain in it. I could give up grains for a few days, but if it was around me (through other people) then before long another uncontrollable craving would kick in.

What was going on? Why couldn’t I “just say no” to grains? I asked around and found out that no one in my circle of friends or business contacts could even remember going a day without grains. Everybody had to have some form of cereal or bread or grain everyday, I mean HAD to have grains every day. This was getting creepy.

So I did my research. I found that gluten and dairy proteins (specifically caseins) contain opioid peptides, which as the name suggests have an opiate-like effect on the brain. I discovered that the brain reaction from eating grains was IDENTICAL to the brain reaction from opium. Not kinda-sorta like it, but identical. The reaction in the brain-receptors produced a sedative effect, a calming, soothing effect. No wonder they call mac-and-cheese “comfort food”, as they pack the double-whammy, dairy and grain, both of which produce an opiate-rush, and together they really deliver. What else do we love with grain and cheese? Pizza? Nachos? Cheeseburgers? The list goes on. We are self-medicating addicts reacting to the stress of modern living with a coping mechanism called food—food as a drug.

How hard it is to “kick” grains? Tough! The body wants what it wants! Outside stresses emerge and the brain screams, “medicate me!”

The body reacts to stress by secreting two types of chemical messengers - hormones in the blood and neurotransmitters in the brain. Normally, stress hormones are released in small amounts throughout the day, but when the body is under stress the level of these hormones increases dramatically. The release of stress hormones begins in the brain.

In the brain, the neurotransmitters trigger emotions, such as aggression or anxiety, that prompt the person to deal with the source of the stress and either fight or flee. In modern society, we do neither. We self-medicate.

So I prayed about this and decided that this was a BIG DEAL in my life and that this addiction to grains was interfering BIG TIME with allowing me to live my purpose on earth, My vision for myself is a life free from obsession, addiction, self-medication so I can be more fully alive, awake and available to give love to myself and others and be of service to others. I see juice feasting as a way to consciously turn back the clock on the root issues behind addictions, release, forgive, understand, heal, and return to the state before our brain chemistry had turned us into addicts within our own skin.

How could something natural like grains be so harmful? I discovered that the original grains of 5,000 - 10,000 years ago had only trace amounts of gluten, and this is the culprit. Just like everything else in the modern food chain, grains have been hybridized to the point of shifting from beneficial to harmful.

So my policy is to view grains like I would heroin .... it is not a part of my reality, and has no business in my body.

Part II - Deadly Grains

Here is more of my research:

Researchers speculate that specific hormones (CRF and ACTH) serve dual purposes as hormones and neurotransmitters involved in producing the emotional responses to stress. The stress hormone cycle is controlled by a number of stimulatory chemicals in addition to CRF and ACTH in both the brain and in the blood. Among the chemicals that inhibit the stress cycle are neurotransmitters called opioid peptides, which are chemically similar to opiate drugs such as heroin and morphine. Researchers have found evidence that opioid peptides also may inhibit the release of natural hormones and other stress-related neurotransmitters in the brain, thereby inhibiting stressful emotions. What this is saying is that in order to avoid feeling emotional stress, we block it by eating food with opioid peptides: breads, flours and grains.

Think back to what you have eaten today or yesterday. Is it possible that you went an entire day without some form of grains as breakfast cereal, oatmeal, muffins, bagels, toast, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, rolls, croutons, tortillas, rice, cookies, cake, pie, etc.? If you did, you are among the rare few who eat a grain-free diet. In America, we are addicted to grains. For many people, this stress-management response prompts them to eat some form of grains at every meal, and then they continue into the night by drinking beer or alcohol. All day long they pump that sedative into their blood stream, causing those opiate-receptors to fire. We are self-medicating ourselves, and we don't see it or understand it, for we learned this behavior from our parents and grandparents. We are bequeathing our bad habits to our children, starting them on cereals as tiny babies, and our children become addicted as well.

Why the problems associated with eating grains are not mainstream news is a simple mathematical equation involving money and greed. Cereal is simply the most profitable food product in history. Profits are reported at 55% per box, and some experts think it is much higher than that. The raw material costs less than the packaging and advertising. But the most heinous aspect of breakfast cereal is that it is not only a drug, but a poison. In the book Fighting the Food Giants author Paul Stitt shares a very disturbing story about the deadly nature of breakfast cereal we freely give to our children:

"While I was doing research on my project in Quaker's library, I came across a little flyer that the company had published in 1942. It contained a report on a study in which four sets of rats were given special diets. One group received plain whole-wheat kernels, water, vitamins and minerals. Another group received Puffed Wheat, water, and the same nutrient solution. A third set was given water and white sugar, and a fourth given nothing but water and the chemical nutrients. The rats which received the whole wheat lived more than a year on the diet. The rats who got nothing but water and vitamins lived for about eight weeks, and the animals on a white sugar and water diet lived for a month. But Quaker's own laboratory study showed that rats given vitamins, water and all the Puffed Wheat they wanted died in two weeks. It wasn't a matter of the rats dying of malnutrition; results like these suggested that there was something actually toxic about the Puffed Wheat itself. Proteins are very similar to certain toxins in molecular structure, and the puffing process of putting the grain under 1500 pounds-per-square-inch of pressure, and then releasing it, may produce chemical changes which turn a nutritious grain into a poisonous substance. And Quaker has known about this toxicity since 1942.

Another experiment was carried out in the 1960s. Researchers at Ann Arbor University were given 18 laboratory rats. They were divided into three groups: one group received corn flakes and water; a second group was given the cardboard box that the corn flakes came in and water; the control group received rat chow and water. The rats in the control group remained in good health throughout the experiment. The rats eating the box became lethargic and eventually died of malnutrition. But the rats receiving the corn flakes and water died before the rats that were eating the box! (The last corn flake rat died the day the first box rat died.) But before death, the corn flake rats developed schizophrenic behavior, threw fits, bit each other and finally went into convulsions. The startling conclusion of this study is that there was more nourishment in the box than there was in the corn flakes."

We even give grain-based pet food to our domestic pets (cats and dogs), who are biologically carnivorous, and should optimally be eating an enzyme-rich raw meat diet. The multi-billion dollar pet food industry has discovered it is much cheaper for them to produce grain-based foods than meats, so they mounted a spectacular ad campaign to sell the idea that grains are healthy for our pets, when just the opposite is true. No wonder our pets are getting the same diseases as humans!

So it was this kind of research that LIT A BIG LIGHTBULB for me and snapped me out of my addiction. I hated thinking that I was a lab rat of the giant food cartels who turned me into an addict, destroyed my health, seeded me for cancer, diabetes and other diseases, and laughed all the way to the bank, as grains are their most profitable area of the food industry, with profits at nearly 55%, way higher than any other category of groceries.

So I did this research to WAKE MYSELF UP, and say to myself "HOMEY DON'T PLAY THAT!"

:) My experience is that the full two pounds of fresh greens breaks the addiction. Skimp on those greens, and the struggle continues. I flavor my green juice with a pinch of stevia and a few drops of peppermint extract, and they are deliciously refreshing, sweet and so yummy I crave them the way I used to crave bread.

You can not emagine how much I apreciate your replay!! Truy I am seeking for this such a long time,it is unbelievable what you said....Emotional stress (I have so much of it last few months as I am griewing for my son) and only and only bread can calm me down. Its amazing!!!! After 2 piecec of bread I am feeling happy (sort of) and sutisfied!!! But my stomach is feeling really bad even after enema...I am bloated all the time and my stomach is growing incredibly even thought I am really slim!! And I am kind of worried...WHY???
Stay a day without bread....i believe I can get there.but I already eat greens daily last 8 months...doesnt seem to help with my craving.but I found myself not to be hungry at all...I just need that feeling to eat bread!!!

Kindest regards
renata

Thanks for the information. Those lab results are interesting for sure. I am glad I dumped the cereal regime a few years ago. Imagine that people buy the whole "Eat cereal 2 meals per day to lose weight." Scarry.

I also agree about the pet food input but I have to mention that a dog that is active (hunting, running, etc) is able to burn off the high protein meat diet but a little old dog like mine can develop some serious liver problems eating that way if she doesn't burn it off and at 13 believe me she doesn't burn it off. Ha. Molly is sweet and I love her dearly. She must have a more balanced diet with meat, veggies, and fruit to really feel good and be active. She eats carrots, apples, and anything that falls on the floor when I juice. She loves a taste of the juice fiber. She is definitely not eating the poisonous high grain diet from the store but I just wanted to add that meat alone isn't good for all dogs.
