Global Juice Feast

Stages Conception: Juice Feasting (by David Rainoshek)

Stages on a Juice Feast:

These are very loose, and I am still working with this (for Juice Feasting: A Modern Hero's Guide to be out later this year), but basically we go through these stages:

Excitement - Days leading up to Feasting and the first 1-5 Days

Cleansing/Detox - this starts up pretty soon after beginning to Juice, and goes noticeably for as long as necessary. Those with high toxicity/weight levels will find it goes for many, many weeks.

Euphoria - starts to set in periodically as the body rehydrates, toxicity levels decrease, constipating waste matter leaves, body image improves, confidence grows, weight loss occurs, sleep is deeper, etc.

Boredom - A plateau occurs. Weight loss slows or stands still for 7-14 days in some cases. Physical transformation is not immediately apparent. Juices all taste the same, or one gets tired of Green Vegetable Juice, or all juices. Friends/coworkers/family keep asking you to go out, and if there is not a spiritual/emotional practice in place, boredom and the desire to return to the world of solid food is pretty strong.

Solidity - A new recognition sets in that progress has been made, and is being made. A significant difference can be seen in many aspects of one's being from the days before the Feast began. Confidence grows that a nutrient-dense plant-based diet and the degree of accomplishment one can realize on such a cuisine is not only possible, but desireable. The student has information that the world needs, and a willingness to teach and/or share sets in - even if it is just with one's acquaintences.

Freedom - The Juice Feast ends, and a solid move to a plant based diet (such as David Rainoshek's Four Means to Get Your Greens with other delicious prepared foods) sets in. With self-knowledge and understanding about nutrition and other aspects of being having taken a much deeper hold during the Juice Feast, the student finds themself more autonomous and self-actualizing, but not in a way that is limited to one's own ego. Living becomes a worldcentric Act of Love.

I was working on this Stages Conception this morning, and thought this might help everyone understand where they are with more clarity.

With peaceful steps,

David Rainoshek, MA. www.JuiceFeasting.com

Thanks for putting words and a structure around those phases. It's definately what is going on with me and solidity takes over now. David and Katrina, I was wondering if you can post my very first new juice feasting blog in french which is :www.unesanterayonnante.blogspot.com ? I have been passionnate about health and raw food lifestyle for a few years and your juice feasting program is just fascinating. Many people here in paris are starting to see changes in me and are asking me questions about this juice feast. How do you become a juice feasting consultant ? Do you plan any program ? Thanks for the answer. Diane

I am at the boredom/freakout phase.
Moving into solidity phase.
Broke feast with a bit of food over the past couple days.
May do a modified juice feast for a week and get back on just juices for the remainder.

This is awesome! Thank you so much for posting this as it's helpful for me to prepare what to look forward to and not give up when these stages occur!

Thank you so much. It helps me know that the low times aren't times of failure so much as expected. They will pass and the rise afterwards is worth the aggravation.

I agree this is great information to be aware of, and know the kind of things one can expect, especially when I have never done a juice feast before.

As far as the cleansing process, I'm not having any problems there. I did a 27-day liver cleanse and then started the JF next day. I was already very cleaned out before the JF, and now I have diahrrea after every juice consumption. I've only done one enema because the juice just goes in and comes right out every hour (John Rose suggested I do a pint of juice every hour for better absorption, rather than 1 quart every other hour). In fact, I'm wondering if I'm approaching the end of the cleansing process? How will I know?
At 5'7," I've lost 22 lbs. and am down to 107 lbs. This weight is a little scarey, and one of our members suggested it might be time for me to end the JF. I'm only on Day 21, and so "in to it." I'm not at all ready to call it quits, until I receive all the health benefits possible. Can you advise me?
For me, it is a whole new life style, and there is such a feeling of freedom to go into a grocery store and not have to grab all those toxic "foods." I'm truly enjoying all the old familiar aromas, and yet, there is no temptation to taste them whatsoever. Yuk!
One of my friends has already taken out a 30-day membership, started the FJ and will be volunteering at the Raw Spirit Festival with me in Sedona, AZ, mid-September. We'll meet you there!

Hi Terry,

At your weight, you are going to fare better with shorter Juice Feasts. You are definitely ready to break out with a Green Smoothie. If you would like to maintain a cleansing physiology that will allow for more rebuilding, you can feast on Green Smoothies and blended Green Soups: A Modified Juice Feast.

We look forward to seeing you in Sedona!

I have greatly appreciated the concept of these stages, which I have read several times since starting my first juice feast on June 3. (Today is day 72, three weeks from feast-breaking day, barring any changes in that plan.) I'm finding that I move around among these stages, more frequently as the feast goes on, and have begun experiencing two or more stages at once. (Excitement and Solidity seem to go together a lot, as people ask me what I've been doing to experience the positive changes I'm going through - it's been fun to share!) I think I'm also beginning to experience what I have heard called "short-timer syndrome" - looking ahead to what comes next, while trying to stay focused on completing this journey successfully. There has been clear confirmation that day 93 is the day to break my feast . . . I have a follow-up appointment with my primary care physician that morning, and I just found out that a local retreat center has an opening for me to come and break my feast, journal, pray, etc. on that day, spend the night in a private cabin, then return home and enter into what comes next.

I'm wondering whether there might be something of a transitional "grieving" process to consider, at least for me . . . as the weeks have gone by, I have appreciated the blogs and discussions of different Global Juice Feast members, but I also miss some of the people I began this journey with back in early June. I'm also wondering about ongoing support as I transition back into the world of solid foods. Transitions have always been a challenge for me!

I am just getting started on a juice feast, and I am winging it. I daily juice kale, spinache, broccoli, sometimes wheatgrass, beets, carrots, tomatos, cranberries, then add fruit like pears, apples, oranges for palatability. usually make about a gallon. i also take whole psillium husk throughout the day. i have to excercise a lot due to my profession, and my trainer says he feels i can keep juicing, but he wants me to add protein powder 6 times a day. i found one, called biopure that is just whey with no additives. i weigh 300 lbs. anybody got a suggestion?
