When I first went raw I lost a lot of hair. My doctor has since told me I may have hypothyroidism due to that and other symptoms. Back then I had eaten a lot of spinach- more than any other green. Recently I've read that kale and spinach inhibit thyroid function and shouldn't be included in juicing if you have this kind of thyroid problem. I wonder if anyone knows anything about this. I've been juicing with them since day one!
Yes but I live in Australia so I have looked one up for you on a US site go to www.waterdistiller.com I have the one for $499 auto refiller. Which I think is so cheap because that model sells for around $1300 to $1400 (Aus). I really hope this helps you.
Hi Allison. A few years ago I was diagnosed with a hyperactive thyroid (which also causes hair loss). There are foods that will slow down your thyroid activity such as kale, collards, spinach and all of the cruciferous vegetable group. Soy products and strawberries will also interfere with an already slow thyroid. Just as the dr. was preparing me for thyroid removal, my hormone level dropped and my goiter began to shrink. I'm doing great now but my hair never fully came back in so I shaved my head and I'm wearing a baldy which looks good on me! Good luck!
it's crazy, isn't it? Since my post, I took Armour for my subclinical hypothyroid diagnosis (had to quit because it made the symptoms worse) then learned about goitrogenic vegetables. Then late last year I developed a painfully swollen thyroid and other symptoms and was told I was hyPERthyroid. The doctor went so far as to say I have Hashimoto's and prescribed PTU (which I haven't had filled). 99% of the symptoms are gone now, but of course I'm confused about what I can and cannot eat now. Grrrrrr.....
Thank you Allison and everyone else for all of the info. Allison, I was diagnosed years ago with hypothyroidism, took medication for years and finally stopped because it didn't seem to help the symptoms or issues or thyroid levels. I will look forward to seeing how avoiding the goitregens and drinking radish juice helps and I will let you know as well! I also look forward to checking out your blog.
I have been taking Armour thyroid for about 1.5 years. Other than the fact that my blood level shows that my thyroid is working, I have not noticed anything differenct in how I feel. My main complaint is that I'm cold all the time. I was cold before eating a raw diet and I'm cold now eating a raw diet.
Were you on a synthetic thyroid or on the Armour? How did you stop taking the thyroid meds? Did you just wean yourself off?
I'm afraid to wean myself off because I do notice that I begin to feel bad when I go two to three days without it. (I forget a lot!) And I also heard one should stop under a doctor's supervision. I'm just interested how you were able to get off the med and what that was like,
I have Hashimoto's and take Armour. I wanna heal it! So, I decided that on the juice feast, it really is not for a long time, and kale and the other cool greens have so many important healing aspects that I am drinking them. So far, so good. I am on day 19. Please check out this site and the story of how this lady healed herself: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=26306%20
Bye for now.
Dear Johnny,

I lost 15 pounds after suffering from a long period of nausea and headaches which were resolved by adopting a largely raw food diet. However, I lost 15 pounds and have not gained it back -- and I was thin to begin with. I intuitively feel a juice fa…

Not feeling called to do a full Juice Feast? That's ok, neither am I.
David Rain suggested I do a Modified Juice Feast based on certain aspects of my health and life.
You don't have to follow any particular plan to do a Modified Juice Feast.
