Global Juice Feast

Hi Juice Feasting Community,

Sorry for the pause in our answering questions here.... our pregnancy is progressing (Katrina is feeling great!), and lately we have been all consumed with preparation and family!

We are here and in The Green Room (for JuiceFeasting.com members) answering questions from now until the end of the 92-Day 2009 Global Juice Feast, beginning the first Saturday in March, 2009.

So that is it! Just a short note to let you know... let the quest(ions) continue!

With peaceful steps,

David and Katrina Rainoshek

A summer baby, how wonderful. Glad things are going well.

My question is about green juice percentages or weight. What consitutes a green juice? I juice a head of lettuce and about 10 - 12 oranges. Is this considered green? Or fruit? Today I will be using two heads of lettuce to up the green content as this is my "official" start day, but I've been wondering what constitutes a GREEN juice.

Some of the recipes I've read are very intense and I doubt I would be able to choke them down. Way too many ingredients and strange fruit/veg combinations that I thought were not optimal. I'm hoping you will say a couple ingredients are sufficient.

Thanks, Shari

David,
Congratulations on you and Katrina and baby! Life is wonderful....

I had a question. I am not a member yet as not able to afford right now.... need to ask a question ... I have diabetes according to the glucose numbers but I want to try to get it under control naturally first. I have no insurance to go to a doctor right now.

In my juicing I have tried to keep it leveled out with mostly greens and a spoon full of hemp butter but this is mixed in to split between 4 quarts of green juice. I am thinking I need something else because about 10 am I start to feeling flushed and pressure in my head ..this tells me when my sugars are getting high.

Can you suggest a recipe that might hold me through the mid-morning and afternoon time.. I space my quarts like this 7:30, 10:30, 1:30 then 6. My recipe has been two heads of romaine, a head of celery, some baby spinach, a cucumber, and avocado and then hemp. Sometimes I will add goji berries and chai. I will sometimes add vanilla agave, maybe a spoon for a quart. or mix a banana or two with the hemp and avocado then pour this unfiltered into my greens juice stir with whip then place in my quarts.

I am not taking any meds at the moment but If juicing does not help bring sugars down soon I feel I will have to break down and get to a dr no matter how much it costs.

Please suggestions.??? Do you think I need more?? Should I stop the agave and bananas? Are the goji berries too sweet also?? It really doesn't seem to make a difference with or without them as I have experimented. I am going through menopause.. does this make a difference?
Exercise is about 20 minutes of walking a day.

I was a member once but after I downloaded things for later I forgot the passwords so I can not get into them anymore....

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for your great questions, and congratulations on being proactive. What I can tell you from experience working with helping people transform diabetes is that insulin resistance and getting things back online can be a challenge. Insulin resistance and the basket of underlying causes that go along with it can be a little tenacious - it holds on, and is provoked easily.

I know you are craving sugar, and this is partly due to insulin resistance, and the other part of the equation is the candida that asks for the sugar.

You are going to need to be prudent on this one. It is Green Vegetable Juice with nothing sweeter than a lemon, and no added fat other than 1/2 tablespoon of hemp oil a day - and I know that sounds like nothing, but healing diabetes means getting the intramyocellular lipids out of your cells that are creating the insulin resistance - and that means a really low fat, low-glycemic protocol. This means what is prudent for you is, during your healing, getting the agave, bananas, hemp seeds or butter, and yes, even the avocados, out of the house. Even the goji berries are too sweet.

For exercise, walk or stroll 20 minutes at least once a day, and if you can rebound, do it.

All of this being said, I am not a doctor, and do not know what your blood sugar numbers are. Since you are not on glucose regulating medications, you are not going to drop your blood sugar too low from them - which is generally the other challenge diabetics have when doing a Live/Green approach to healing diabetes.

Meditate deeply on this. You have three eyes with which to see things, all of which are fine, but will give you a different viewpoint: your Eye of Flesh, your Eye of Mind, and your Eye of Contemplation. Your Eye of Flesh is going to tell you to keep eating bananas, chai, and agave with all the other good things your Eye of Mind and Eye of Contemplation are guiding you towards. Reflect on what your higher self really wants, and be in a place of not denying your body what it needs, but providing it what it truly needs - a prudent, low-glycemic, low-fat Green diet that will resolve the imbalance created by insulin resistance.

And if I were you I would invest in some personal guidance from an Osteopath or Naturopath in your area who can monitor how you are doing. We are here to support you, but having someone knowledgeable with skin on is also very important.

Please let me know how this resonates, and if I can provide you further guidance I will.

Be proud of yourself. We are.

David,
Thank you for your suggestions.

So I need hemp oil instead of the hemp butter? Gee I wish this could be gotten on food stamps. I can not remember if I got the hemp butter on food stamps or not. I know I bought a jar of powdered greens for emergencies and had to pay cash for them. When I was able to be ahead on the cash situation.

So any dark green leafy veggie will do for my greens? No specific green is better over another in help to lower and clean these devils out? Do I need to be drinking more then just 4 quarts a day? Will this then help keep the cravings and flushes at bay?

And now my blender has busted so I have to save for another. But I do have a juicer.

My sugars are through the roof and I do not mean just in the 200s they are much higher.. I get yelled at by many people to go to the dr NOW. Saying these high numbers are ruining my body. But I feel that with the drugs I am also ruining my body so do want to try as much as I can naturally. If I did not know the numbers I would still be ruining my body by eating bad so at least I am trying to heal. Naturally.

Thank you so very much for your help.

Well just to let you know.. I have gone to the ER to be checked. My sugars were very high and they put me on Metformin and a blood pressure medicine. I have tracked my sugars since the first of March this year. They are still high. With my fbs The lowest with meds I have gotten was 230. Then of course as I get moving and eat I go up. I have been walking some. But kind of afraid to do alot due to the fact that I am so high.

I have been juicing ( I got a new blender--a cheap one)But even juicing doesn't seem to help much. maybe I am just getting impatient. I do feel fine over all tho. Waiting for your book to come to me in the mail so I can have a copy of my own. Also waiting on an appointment so I can get Medicare

Hi David and Katrina,
In the morning, I like the liver flush recipe that I found somewhere on this site. It's 1 c. lemon juice, 1 c. water, several cloves garlic, a tablespoon olive oil and cayenne to tolerance. (I blend the water, lemon juice and garlic and strain, then add the rest and blend)

Is this ok to drink every morning on the GJF, considering it contains olive oil? Is it beneficial for the liver to drink this daily for such a long period of time or is it intended for more short-term use?

Is it better to skip the olive oil on the GJF? Are the liver-cleansing properties diminished with out the oil?

And what about adding MSM to take advantage of the Vitamin C in the lemon juice?

Thanks for your support!
Phyllis

I used the liver flush recipe (above) for the first half of the feast, and now for the second half, I've switched to lemon water and MSM as the first morning drink.

I would still appreciate an answer to my question, above, if ANYone out there would care to comment.
Thanks!

David,
Hope you can help. I am on Day 30 of the JF and my bowels have not moved without the assistance of an enema since day 3. I read someone on this site, and correct me if i'm wrong, that I should have 2-3 movements a day. Without an enema nothing is flowing. I've had one colonic and that was great and helped with some of the bloat in my tummy but otherwise nothing is coming out on it's own. I have tried psyllium husk and I am now taking the cascara sagrada and no movement there either. I just want to make sure all is well. Perhaps this is just what happens or doesn't happen. thanks!
