Global Juice Feast

What a Juice Feast Newbie learned so far on DAY 1

I have to admit, I did a little practice in the past few days to prepare for today, my "Day 1" on the Juice Feast.
Although I have made juice in my juicer before, the blender/mylk bag concept is new to me. I haven't been able to order the mylk bags yet, so I am using (NEW!) knee-high nylon stockings I purchased from Walmart (bargain at $1.00 for 6 stockings!). I figured these will be ok to use until I can order the mylk bags.
So, here are a few things I learned so far today. I hope someone finds help and or humor in some of this:

1) I actually LOVED using the stockings! I had practiced before today with a pillow case, struggling to squeeze what I could out of the big "bulb", but today I found the stockings to be much easier & got lots more juice out! Keep in mind, as you start adding the juice from the blender, the socks get real long, I learned I had to kinda gather it as I poured from the blender. I initially squeezed what I could, then "hung" it over my big bowl on a kitchen cabinet door knob, while I started another blender and poured it into another stocking, hung, etc. The reason I loved the stockings is this: when I go back to the first stocking, I can work the pulp up the sock a little (as it is hanging over the bowl), and as it goes UP the stocking, juice is coming out ALL down the stocking! Then, I squeezed it back down into the bulb, squeezed, then worked it back up again. It was wonderful seeing all that juice coming out and falling into my bowl! NOTE: I was a little worried that a stocking may break open, so if I reused a stocking I had it over a 2nd bowl (just incase it broke open).

2) I had some beets left over, so I used 2 in todays juicing. Instead of being nicely green, though, my juice today looks more brown. I am guessing its the vibrant red off the beets being added to all of my greens I used over powered them.

3) Total time did take about 1 & 1/2 hours, not counting clean up. I am off til Monday, so I am hoping to get a little better by then. Weekday mornings are a little hectic anyway, so I need to be sure I plan the night before by setting up & having all my supplies clean & ready to use.

4) I wanted some nice relaxing "Zen" music when I am online at juicefeasting.com and reading blogs on feasting, etc. I can't buy cd's now, so I found this great site http://www.zenradio.fm/

Enjoy! Have fun & Happy Feasting!

Hi Sharon!

Congratulations on Day 1! Thank you for your funny experiences.

Yes, nylons are a hilarious way to make juice. You will like the nut mylk bags much more, however.

And, you can see why we always start Global Juice Feasts on a Saturday - this is the best day of the week to begin, to give yourself some time to settle in!

Glad you are here with us!

With peaceful steps,

David Rainoshek, MA, www.JuiceFeasting.com

The Zen music site is fabulous...thanks for sharing it!

how's it going now? I, too, added a beet and the green tops to my green drink today...changed color of course and kinda overpowered it I thought too but it was delicious nevertheless....but do that only once in a while anyway...

Off to my first colonic today....whew-whoooooo....
