Here's what David shared with me at juicefeasting.com when I asked about running and juicing. I've never made it past 10 days juicing, so don't have more personal experience to share. Good luck, P-Lee.

So to run or not to run while Juice Feasting?

If you do not have any serious health challenges to transform, and you are Juice Feasting for tune-up purposes, then if I were you I would look at a Modified Juice Feast while training. Or I would just Juice Feast and run 2-5 miles, 3-4 times a week, tops.

Here is why:

Exercise in and of itself creates a cleansing physiology, but it also demands more nutrients, making rebuilding/recovery absolutely necessary. If you are going to train, you may find it imbalancing to push a significant cleansing physiology by doing both strenuous exercise and Juice Feasting. What might work better is to do standard training, drink 3-4 quarts of juice each day, but also drink Green Smoothies, which will help you keep your weight up and ground you more than juices will.

If you have a health challenge you need to heal, lay off the training for the duration of your Juice Feast. Healing happens best with rest, and only enough movement to support your organs of elimination. While we can do significant exercise in the latter days of an extended Juice Feast (while drinking enough juice), in the first weeks the body is geared more towards detoxification and general maintenance, and strenuous exercise is not conducive to that process.

So, if you just want a little lighter body and a lot of liquid energy while training during a 30-Day period, try a Modified Juice Feast: 3-4 quarts of juice plus 1-3 quarts of Green Smoothie (or even some Green Soup with avocado). This will make you a lean running machine and decrease the likelihood of bonking.

Let me know how this resonates. Happy running!

With peaceful steps,

David Rainoshek, MA

HAs amyone trained for a half marathon while doing the feast? I just started today on my 92 day feast and I have a race on mothers day! I guess I'm just wondering if I will have the energy.

Hi... I've just joined a yoga class for the month of March. I love going to the gym but, am hoping something more gentle will be the answer during the first month of my feast. I'm not sure what to expect in terms of drops in my energy level over the first month?

Hello again everyone! I've been 'quiet' lately due to several major things going on in my life - house up for sale, trying to get a book written, classes, and my husband's health is failing which brings me to a very emotional state -- lately not the best time to start juice feasting. Have decided to try a short one this weekend and see how it goes..(today is day 1)......if it goes well will continue...........or plan soon for another longer one. All of you are soooooooooooo motivating and really have me inspired! I don't know what this P90X is, maybe someone can tell me.
I love that we have a variety of sports/fitness enthusiasts here and think what you're doing speaks VOLUMES - 'old age' is a state of mind!!!! Believe me...................though they may not be telling you to your face, people NOTICE! You're all so RAWSOME! -Hugs!

Thanks for bringing up this book, Raw Power. It's an excellent book for those of you who haven't read it -- he does know of that which he speaks!

No, I didn't take the before pictures.I would have to ask my husband and I am doing this unbeknownst to him. I want to see if he notices. I would like to lose weight on this too but I think I want to tone more actually. It is great you are able to do it with your brothers:) That must make it more fun. It is definately a motivator;) And ya, I agree it seems the guys lose the weight faster than us. So, you are doing doubles? How are you doing? Keep going you are an encouragement ot me knowing someone else is doing this. We will have to post our pictures after the 90 days huh? Scary!!!!! I am psyched though. At my age I want to be in the best shape ever and I think P90X will help. And your funny. Ya, you got to wonder about those girls on the videos. Heehee!!

Hi Kathy!! Yeah I am on phase 2 which is a little different than phase 1 in that they switch up a couple of routines for arms and back. I love it though. I am doing it with my brothers and find that when we dont do it together it is harder to get motivated. Know what I mean??? I actually started doing doubles last week because I really want to lose weight as quickly as possible. I havent weighed myself yet and am going to wait until the 25th to do so. My brother has lost 15 pounds already (doesnt it seem easier for Men? Ha ha). Did you take before pictures??? I did.... yuck!! And I also took pictures again last week since it was the beginning of phase 2 and I havent even looked at them... I dont want to see. Isn't that funny.... I dont want to see anything except the AFTER pictures on day 90!! Ha ha!!! I hope I look as hot and toned as some of those girls on the videos. Sometimes I wonder if they already had those bodies before starting though. Hmmmmm

Not feeling called to do a full Juice Feast? That's ok, neither am I. David Rain suggested I do a Modified Juice Feast based on certain aspects of my health and life. You don't have to follow any particular plan to do a Modified Juice Feast.
