Summer Juice Feasters

Are you a Summer Juice Feaster? The produce is perfect right now! Local organic is readily available! Things are greening, plumping, and ripening up. The Hot/Cool Shower (Contrast Shower) and working up sweats for cleansing is easier in summer!

I find my Breville Juice Fountain Compact not so good with leafy greens like spinach. So far mine is okay with "wet" fruits like pineapple, tomatoes, etc. I'm thinking mylk bags are the way to go for some things but my blender is one of those cheap ones from Target lol. I think a few people use paint strainers from Lowes or pantyhose (Kait said she was getting some for her juicing) instead of the nut mylk bags.

Some time ago I bought some spirulina which is compressed into tablets. I've been taking these just to finish them up. I wonder if the quality is as good as loose powder. Kira.. your suggestion for adding powder to OJ sounds great! I also love the concept of sipping juice while walking on the beach. Too bad I'm not near the ocean but it's a nice visual.

Something else I wanted to ask about..I have a lot of left over Greens+multi powder. The unflavored kind. I'm thinking I would like to use this up before I go buying new supplements. I think its very similar to vitamineral green.

Even though I have a juicer, today I ordered some nut milk bags as I find the Solostar is not so good with soft things like watermelon, strawberries and tomato. Anyone else have this issue?

Oh I am so thrilled to see all you summer juicers here! I started yesterday, June 10. Bit later than I had planned but that stuff happens. Definitely produce is more interesting this time. I found some awesome organic dandelion and lots of kale and other greens. Some fruits were way too high priced but I don't mind non-organic for things like watermelon and oranges. Things have really greened up and warmed up here and today I'm thinking I might even enjoy this summer juice feasting!
Today was a rough day physically but I was ok with it. I know there will be a few of these. For 2 days I have had major back pain and muscle spasms. Not sure what that is about but it could be from something before.
Did I mention how encouraged I am to see so many others here summer juicing???? I love it!!

I juiced two oranges, strained it, then put it back in a clean Vitamix and added 1/2 tsp. spirulina and a couple of ice cubes. It worked perfectly! It actually tasted kind of good...which is a far cry from how it had been tasting. Thanks for the idea!

I'll try adding the spirulina to some OJ. That sounds like it might work. And yes, I have been avoiding it because of the gag factor, so I think really, really small amounts to begin with is a better idea. Thanks!

Re spirulina ... YES, definitely an acquired taste. Here is what I learned about it.
1) Start with 1/2 teaspoon ... or even less. Better to put in less consistently (1-3 times per day) then avoid it because you are gagging!
2) It is very good with OJ! I squeeze my OJ, then pour the OJ into Vitamix blender, add ice, some water (to rinse the citrus juicer and get all the remains), some stevia, some organic vanilla extract, a bit of MSM, and then add your small amount of spirulina. Very yummy! Being icy helps.
3) When I make my green juices and bottle it in jars, I do not add superfoods until right before I drink a particular jar. I have found that the superfoods thicken a LOT as they sit in solution, so it is best to drink ASAP. I add Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) ... about 1-2 T per quart to give the GVJ some zip. This helps mask the taste of the superfoods so they are unnoticeable. I dilute all my juices because I like them that way. So I drink about 1.5 to 2 gallons a day which is good for me ... I like feeling full and so I usually have 1 gallon of GVJ (adding superfoods right before drinking) and 1 gallon of fruity or coconuty or citrusy something.
4) After a while, the superfoods will start tasting GOOD to you (give it a month or so) and when you are drinking plain juice without them, they may taste a bit flat, like "something's missing". Yay! Your palate has adjusted and your body's natural wisdom is now driving.

Give it time, and start with small amounts and baby steps.

I'm on Day 3 today and glad to have found all of you. It'll be great to have others to juice feast with. I thought I was the only one going through the summer. LOL

So my biggest challenge right now is getting the spirulina down. I added it to my blender with my juice, then strained it through the nutmilk bag, and it tasted fine. But then I realized I probably strained it all out. The next juice I stirred it in after I strained my juice, and it was all clumpy and made me gag. Is this just an acquired taste?

Hi ya'll, I'm really looking forward to heading out to the farmers markets this week. I tried to visit a rather large market near wear I live, but a truck had plowed into it lol. No one was hurt, but the poor watermelons didn't survive. I'm doing my start redo today, so woo summer juice feasters! :D

$1.29 for strawberries! What a bargain! I went out and bought a bunch of produce from the local Asian market by me also. Just enough to last me until next Saturday when I take a trip to the Union Square farmers' market. :)
