A Brita filter won't work...the best water is alkaline water...finding a pure, non-fluoride water is hard to find...but the next best are reverse osmosis, non-tap water. Flouride is a toxic chemical, go to youtube to find videos and you will see it…

I didn't know about fluoride causing problems. If I use a water filter (like a brita will this remove the flouride?)

Profile Information

About Me:
I have been overweight since childhood. Although it started due to emotional trauma, I've become convinced that my cravings and binges are due to a physically-based addiction to sugars and refined, processed foods. I discovered raw in late 2005 after deciding that the old ways of losing weight were no longer acceptable to me since I'd always suffered along the way and then regained the weight because I was still eating foods I couldn't seem to stay away from. I was also ready to stop focusing on weight and to make holistic health my primary goal: mental, physical and spiritual.

I discovered raw through a process of elimination; I knew a lot of fat vegetarians and vegans so I crossed those regimens off my list- but the raw foods forums intrigued me. The more I read, the more I liked what people were talking about. I started in January of 2006, woefully ignorant of nutrition. I lost a lot of weight, a lot of hair, and a lot of confidence. I quit after a few months- but I "knew" raw was right for me because my depression had lifted, my skin cleared, and other great things happened. The hair loss scared me, though, so my research began.

Two years later, after educating myself about the RIGHT way to eat raw, I'm back! Juice feasting is my way back to the 100% raw world. I love that it's FEASTING and not FASTING. I love that it's raw, simple and incredibly healthy. I love how much work the Rainosheks have put into this site and juicefeasting.com- thank you!!! And I love the genuinely friendly people I've encountered within the raw community.

I am blogging my journey back to raw on my Raw Odyssey blog, which started in January 2006 (yes, you can read about the condition I about my triumphs, failures, naivetee, fears, etc.) Sometimes I look back for inspiration - or for a good laugh!

My Neighbors Reported me for my Loud VitaMix!!!

This sucks! I've been using my VitaMix for like 30 days straight every morning and not a peep out of them. I think I'm more insulted that they didn't do the neighborly thing and let me know face-to-face that I was disturbing them so I could have stopped. Now I've probably got a "record" at the main office!!!

Anyway, now I guess I'll be either going to work later (don't think so) or juicing the night before (not the best alternative but will have to do). Sigh... That is the down side of owning t… Continue

Hypothyroid: Foods to Eat and Foods to Avoid

I've been researching vegetables to avoid if you have hypothyroid or low thyroid levels and posting that information on my blog and also at www.giveittomeraw.com. I think it's especially important to post the information here.

Vegetables that have goitrogens can inhibit thyroid function. It's important to note that most doctors don't recommend that people with hypothyroid… Continue

My Skin Erupted and Now it's Clearing Up....???

I've been drinking green juices for a couple of weeks now, although I'm not dong the juice feast quite yet. I looked in the mirror yesterday and was appalled at how horrible my face looked- acne bumps, whiteheads, etc. on top of the poor complexion I already have. It was hideous. Nothing I could do about it, though, so I drank some extra green juice and went to bed. This morning I looked in the mirror and was shocked that my right cheek was now minus the whiteheads and actually feels smoother! I… Continue

Hi Allison,
All is well. I have been on the official juice feast since the 1st of March. The detox symptoms are not as bad as when I was on the modified juice feast. How are you doing? Your photos are magnificent. Your questions are terrific-I really learn from them. I still am waiting on more info from David & Katrina on the greens/low thyroid question. I will check again today for an answer. So many women have hypothyroidism (I think). Oh yes, about losing hair-I use to lose hair (a lot of hair) when I did not get enough sleep. Fortunately it has all come back. (Well, maybe just some of it, as my hair is much thinner now than when I was in my 20's) Another thing two women told me-one about my age (65yrs) & another about 80 yrs old: their mothers told them when they were very young to massage their scalp with their fingertips 100 x a day (bending over with head towards floor-like when you touch the floor with your hands). These women, for their age, have the thickest hair of anyone I know. I massaged my scalp for about a month or two, and I think my hair was beginning to get thicker-or maybe it was just my imagination.
I had better start juicing. It was so good to hear from you. The juicing really keeps me busy & out of trouble-lol.
Blessings,
Khalah
