Well, after a lot of planning, preparing and talking, I have finally returned to 100% raw by embarking upon my modified juice feast. I am very excited about using all that I have learned about raw nutrition and my own health issues to explore a raw diet that works for me. I still have a lot to learn! I don't know if I'll avoid the hair loss I experienced the last two times I tried raw, and I don't know how long I'll do the juice feasting. These are discoveries I will make over the next few weeks and months.
In my blog,
Raw Odyssey, I will chronicle my progress and experiences, both positive and not-so-positive. Today's post is about the things I've learned over the past two years that tell me I am doing the right thing with my raw diet. After dealing with insulin resistance, hypothyroidism and years of "disordered eating" I have done enough reading and experimenting that I am at a point where I can respond logically and non-defensively to doubters like my nurse friends, my skeptical mother, and critical ex-nutritionist. It's great to take more control over my health in this way, and it's even better to do it through whole, unprocessed foods.
The main difference between my juice feasting and the official juice feasting program is that I am leaving some of the fiber in one juice per day to keep my intestines moving without enemas. I may also add a little avocado once in a while for the good fats, as I prefer that to ground flax seed. My detoxing may be slower because of these changes, but since I'm doing this for the overall health benefits rather than to quickly detox, this is not a problem for me.
So far day one is going pretty well!
