I started today with a quart of gross green juice. It sounded nice in theory, but it didn't settle in my tummy (or on my tastebuds) very well. It was spinach/celery/cucumber/orange juice.
At lunch, I ate. I actually ate. I was on a tour of a power plant for school, and they fed us lunch. They had a great spread of fresh fruits and veggies, so I went for those, and then, after much deliberation, I decided to eat one of the sandwich quarters that were there, too. It was tomato, onion, lettuce, pepper, so nothing too bad (other than the bread). I really concentrated on my food, and I chewed it really well. I don't feel guilty about doing this. I'd been thinking about it all of yesterday, and when I started my juice feast, I decided it would be modified. Now, I have settled on my "modification" rules. They are:
I must (underlined) include 1-2 lbs of leafy greens, and 1 head of celery in my daily intake.
Start the day with a green juice, or a green smoothie.
I think it will be best of me to focus on including these things, and seeing how my cravings shift towards a healthier, plant-based diet. That being said, I am going to pay extra attention to the negative cravings, and I'll do my best to nip them in the bud with healthful alternatives.
Like my mom says -- everything (ok, maybe not everything) in moderation.
In happy news: I got my enema kit today. So, I'm going to start doing those (not daily since I'm not 100% juice feasting), and see if that diminishes my cravings for SAD food. I also got a case of Dr. Martin's Coco juice, which is the closest thing I could get to a raw, young coconut around here. I'm very excited.
I do miss the empty but not hungry feeling of juice feasting from the past few days. I think the past four days have really shed light onto why I eat, when I eat, and what I eat. I tend to eat out of boredom, and I don't need to eat for that reason. I should eat to sustain myself, and to energize myself -- not to block out emotions or because I have nothing better to do.
Right now, I'm drinking an arugula/mango/lime green smoothie, and it's fantastic. Well on my way to 1-2 lbs of greens today!
